MY SYNOPSIS

Search and rescue pilot Kacey Fairing joined the military to run away from her past. She left her daughter, Audrey, to her parent’s care when she was a baby, and only sees her between deployments. Now she is home in Mercy Falls with the hope to reconnect with Audrey and to overcome some hard issues she experienced in battle.

Just one problem with that: Kacey was not expecting to see Ben King again or to face all the memories and feelings he’d bring back with him.

MY REVIEW

It’s a very nice story, but that’s not a surprise, it’s Susan May Warren who we’re
talking about here, and we know she can do no wrong.

Let's do this
I’m not a huge fan of outdoors or extreme environments, so the general concept of this series is definitely out of my comfort zone, but the writing is so good that I’m learning to like it.

wereallinthistogether_zpsfe029b7aAll characters are very easy to relate to, but my favorite is Ben King, of course, he’s so real and broken. He does not have life figured out, and he’s not pretending to have it. I believe we’ve all been in that same condition at some point: lost, messy, in need of rescue.

I could easily connect with almost everything that happened in the story, all its ups and downs. However, I must admit I felt Ian and Sierra’s subplot more deeply, even if
dont_worry_be_happyit was secondary in this book.

Now, Ben and Kacey’s story was really sweet and romantic, but I can’t shake off the idea that some big problems were solved kind of easily and fast. It might be that these characters had suffered enough and were ready for that.

I loved to see the changes in Ben throughout the story. He’s definitely a great character and I enjoyed spending some time with him and learning what second chances look like.

TO LISTEN TO WHILE READING

In a Facebook event, Susan May Warren shared that she had a hard time trying to grasp Ben’s character, how his state of mind should like as ‘country star with a lot of shame in his past’. She said God used “Jack Daniels & Jesus” by Chase Rice to find some answers.

“I was actually struggling with Ben, and listening to country music, and praying for God’s touch, His wisdom, and this song came on the radio. And BAM, I got chills and knew this was Ben.”–Susan May Warren

Therefore, I think we must give that song a try, don’t you agree?
